SLAK has always aimed to support and uplift women from shelters, and is here to be a stepping stone toward a brighter future. We provide a safe and productive environment for skills development, training and income security, allowing women who come from uncertain backgrounds the opportunity to find their footing. We’re all deserving of privacy and warmth, and we intend to always treat one another as such. In that regard, names have been omitted to retain the privacy of each individual.

Some of the women we work with take this opportunity to further their education, and pursue their passions beyond SLAK. This includes TAFE, university, or other schooling, and oftentimes they now have the financial resources to support themselves in order to reignite their spark for learning. We hope that we can help nurture this spark and help it grow, so that more may find further opportunities and pathways in their futures.

Other times, we have helped provide a pillar of support for women to reconnect with their families. We understand that there are nuances and difficulties that come with homelessness, and people can lose connection with their family when they are put in such a difficult situation. It’s a very special thing to be able to aid someone as they take such a vulnerable step in their life.

Each of these women are passionate, hardworking and unique. Our circumstances in life can be what divides us, but we hope that it’s also what unites us. It’s important to us at SLAK that we extend empathy, respect, and kindness to each person, as each person has their own story worth telling.
